I was lucky enough to attend the 20th Annual Limelight Awards put on by the LoDo District, Inc. this week. It was a grand event with all many of Denver's movers and shakers! Kevin Taylor knows how to rock the menu at the Opera House - stunning venue.

What made this particular event so special was learning about the changes that Denver has seen over the last 20 years and meeting the people who have dedicated so much of their time to turning Denver an amazing city. I felt humbled indeed, when Dana Crawford took to the stage and talked so candidly about where Denver was 20 years ago and the time, planning and involvement it has taken to get simple things changed. What a women, a pioneer and such an asset to our city. I felt lucky to meet Dana in person that night and I believe Dana is Denver's darling.

There were many wonderful people in the room that night. Mayor Hickenlooper, Newly retired new anchor from Channel 7 Bill Clark was the lovely emcee. Dave Moore, the brilliant mind behind the ROCKTOBER marketing campaign and so many more. I so enjoyed learning about the people who have contributed to our city and how much love there is is for the small town we call home. No matter what anyone says - Denver will always be a town. Our town.

We are lucky to have such leaders and committed citizens. This is what makes any place great and it is rare to find such a nook where people are so genuinely proud of their streets, parks, rivers, renovations and public transportation (more to come!)

I am challenging myself and each one of you to do something that makes a difference for our TOWN! I am including resources on this list and I want to dedicate this to all the people that have been working over the years to create a culture and environment that lends itself to prideful living and a juicy lifestyle.

Change the World. Start at Home - VOTE for Denver

HGTV’s Change the World. Start at Home campaign is a community revitalization project in ten cities, one of which is Denver. Each community will receive funding for specific community projects. However, people can vote for the cities they feel are the most deserving of a makeover. The most ‘popular’ cities will receive additional funding from HGTV and be featured on the network.

If Denver is selected, the Curtis Park District in Five Points neighborhood will receive much needed attention through the renovation of the Curtis Park Community Center building and church. The community center has been closed in recent years due to repair issues and asbestos contamination. Their current funds only cover removal of the asbestos. However, HGTV funds will help create new programs for seniors and children and of course help revitalize the neighborhood.

Also planned is funding for Denver’s Mile High Million program whose goal is to add one million new trees to the Denver Metro by the year 2025. HGTV will support a tree planting program on Stout Street and Park Avenue to beautify and improve the area.

Subject: How Xcel is Defrauding Colorado Energy Customers

I'm a retired North Denver native living in Highlands Ranch and would appreciate you printing this letter in The Denver Post. I have done my own research and it is correct to the best of my knowledge & ability to read reports submitted to the SEC.

In late 2005 Wayne Brunette, Xcels CEO, resigned/retired after working there 4 years. His EXIT PACKAGE was/is:

1.) $1,000,000.00 yr lifetime retirement salary, + benefits = potentially........... $20,000,000.00

2.) 6 month consulting contract (Help new CEO get settled).............................$4,300,000.00

3.) Common Stock.......................................................................................$5,500,000.00

4.) 3 yr Performance Package (Total share return) ...............................Cash $1,000,000.00

.............................Shares $7,335,999.00

5.) Corporate goal - Incentive - (set by corp.) ...................................................$ 292,976.00

TOTAL HAUL........ $38,428,975.00

Does this "money grabbing" make anyone else "other" than me sick and/or upset ? ? ? ?

People that don‘t care thus far........: Governor Owens, 10 representatives, 4 senators, and the PUC Board thinks Xcel is a publicly traded stock company and can pay their executives anything they care too. Bottom line - Xcel is not a “typical“ stock company because they have no competition (by law), and has us as a captive customer (monopoly).

I feel one of two things needs to happen; 1.) Xcel needs to be ousted from Colorado, and the Public Service Co. of Colorado reinstated, or 2.) The PUC is given the authority to CONTROL ALL OF XCEL’S CHARGES, thus eliminating this corporate greed we are currently being subjected too. Call your Representative, Senator, Governor, and PUC Board. Lets raise "heck" and put a stop to these Parasites called Corporate Officers. Thank You.

Inspiring Community

You know... ASHLEY'S LIST was me, not able to sleep one night. And now... I cannot even tell you how amazing it is to meet and surround myself with people who are so supportive of this 'creative endeavor' and well, lack of sleep. Throughout the last six weeks I have had the good fortune to meet and really talk with some of Denver's best. And when I say best... I mean the people that put their blood, sweat and tears into their business and do not have ONE complaint about being "tired" or overworked. It is the passion in people's eyes... they are doing what they LOVE. How rare and beauitful.

So many people get lost in what they "should" be doing... or are scared to take that leap to follow their heart. I have seen more leapers and gutsy people out there in the last six weeks than I have in my entire life. Through ASHLEY'S LIST... I get to reach my hand out, offer a "service" and I get to hear people's stories... and each one of them is unique and strong... and so very cool.

I want to thank the "connectors" of Denver. You know who you are... you know you love it (ME TOO) and there is something very gratifying about being able to connect people who can benefit from just meeting eachother... there is so much power in that. I want to thank the people that are signing up to get the e-newsletter... if you haven't you can sign up on the site. I won't spam you... I don't have time.

I want to thank the people out there who have said "what a great idea..." and supported me. ASHLEY'S LIST was never, ever intended to grow like this... though I am not complaining. I am energized and pleased. The more the merrier... and I am just so thankful that I can do my part in uncovering the businesses out there that don't have the budgets to dump $10k into advertising campaigns. I am glad that I can walk into places of business and just hear people's stories. I am inspired every day by this.

So, the night I lost sleep and created ASHLEY'S LIST could have very well been the night that I started down a new path... a bright, exciting path where I get to really surround myself with the best, the bold...the wild.. and the driven. I am so lucky.

Connecting People, Places and Things

Ashley's List was born out of my desire to connect people, places and things. I am always hearing about wonderful things going on in Denver and I wanted to have a way to share that with others. I am also connected and have a handle on the job market, current opportunities and ways to network in and out of the mainstream.

I have talented and savvy friends that own small businesses and this is also my effort to highlight the importance of bringing back small businesses and really supporting them.

Connecting people, places and things has always been something I have enjoyed doing, it has been a great hobby for me and I look forward to sharing the latest and greatest from Denver, CO.
